What To Expect

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our representative will welcome you and transfer you to Planet Lodge Arusha.

Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at the lodge, enjoy the tropical gardens, or explore Arusha town. In the evening, your mountain guide will conduct a detailed climb briefing and equipment check.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)

After breakfast, drive to the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park. Following registration procedures at Londorossi Gate, continue to the Lemosho trailhead.

The trek begins through dense montane rainforest, home to black-and-white colobus monkeys, exotic birds, and unique vegetation. The gentle pace allows your body to begin acclimatizing naturally.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp (3,505m)

Leave the rainforest behind as the landscape gradually transforms into moorland. The trail climbs steadily with magnificent views across the Shira Ridge and surrounding wilderness. Upon reaching Shira 1 Camp, enjoy your first spectacular sunset over Mount Meru.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

Today’s trek is relatively gentle, allowing for excellent acclimatization. Cross the vast Shira Plateau, one of the largest high-altitude plateaus in the world. Enjoy panoramic views of Kibo Peak, glaciers, and endless alpine landscapes.

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (3,960m) via Lava Tower (4,630m)

This is one of the most important acclimatization days. Climb gradually to Lava Tower, where lunch is served at over 4,600 meters, before descending to Barranco Camp. The famous “climb high, sleep low” principle greatly improves acclimatization and increases summit success rates. The Barranco Valley offers some of the most spectacular scenery on the entire mountain.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

Leave the rainforest behind as the landscape gradually transforms into moorland. The trail climbs steadily with magnificent views across the Shira Ridge and surrounding wilderness. Upon reaching Shira 1 Camp, enjoy your first spectacular sunset over Mount Meru.

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

The trail gradually ascends through alpine desert terrain toward Barafu Camp. Upon arrival, enjoy an early dinner and rest in preparation for summit night. Your guides will provide a final briefing before the most challenging and rewarding part of the adventure.

Day 8: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Millennium Camp (3,820m)

Around midnight, begin the ascent toward Uhuru Peak under a sky filled with stars. Pass Stella Point before reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at sunrise. Standing on the Roof of Africa is a truly unforgettable achievement. After celebrating and taking photos, descend carefully to Barafu Camp for brunch before continuing to Millennium Camp.

Day 9: Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Arusha

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where successful climbers receive their summit certificates. After completing park formalities, transfer back to Arusha for a well-earned hot shower and comfortable night at Planet Lodge.

After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.

Essential Gear & Equipment for Your Kilimanjaro Trek

Proper preparation is essential for a safe and successful Kilimanjaro climb. As you will pass through several climate zones, from tropical rainforest to arctic summit conditions, having the right equipment is crucial.

Head & Neck

• Sun hat or cap, warm beanie, buff/neck gaiter, sunglasses, and a headlamp with spare batteries.

Upper Body

• Lightweight and thermal base layers, short and long-sleeve trekking shirts, fleece jacket, insulated down jacket, and a waterproof/windproof shell jacket.

Lower Body

• Thermal leggings, hiking trousers, comfortable camp trousers, waterproof shell trousers, and optional hiking shorts.

Hands

• Lightweight liner gloves and insulated waterproof outer gloves or mittens.

Footwear & Socks

• Waterproof hiking boots, warm hiking socks, spare trekking socks, optional liner socks, camp shoes, gaiters, and micro-spikes (recommended from December to February).

Tip: Bring enough socks to change regularly and keep your feet dry and comfortable.
